EXHIBITION: Calleen Art Award 2022

The Calleen Art Award (the Calleen) was founded in 1977 by art patron and collector Mrs Patricia Fagan, OAM as an acquisitive art prize with the inaugural winner forming the nucleus of the “Calleen Collection”. It was Patricia Fagan’s dream to have a permanent home for the display and storage of the Calleen Collection which came to fruition with the opening of the Cowra Regional Art Gallery in October 2000. A significant feature of the Calleen Art Award has been the prevailing trend to focus on painting in any style or subject during the past 44 years, now a condition of entry since 2009.

The Calleen Art Award is one of the Gallery’s most treasured projects and definitely a favourite annual exhibition with the Cowra community. Its recognition as a significant and prestigious art award open to artists across Australia is a reflection of its aims to present artworks that not only possess skill and technique but also remain original and innovative.

Through the generous support of the Calleen Trust, $25,000 in prize money will be awarded to the winner of the Calleen Art Award 2022 and their winning artwork will join the Calleen Collection at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery.
