Cowra’s New Hospital Opens: Community Urged to Take Care Around Demolition Zone

Cowra Mayor Paul Smith today welcomed the operational opening of the new Cowra Hospital, marking a major milestone for healthcare in the region. As the new facility begins receiving patients, Mayor Smith also highlighted important safety considerations now in place around the former hospital site.

“This is a proud moment for Cowra,” Mayor Smith said. “The new hospital brings modern facilities, improved accessibility, and expanded services for our community.”

With the transition complete, demolition of the former hospital will begin shortly and is expected to run for around six months. Mayor Smith emphasised that the works will bring unavoidable impacts to local roads and pedestrian access.

Council and NSW Police will closely monitor traffic flow and pedestrian behaviour to ensure safety is maintained. Any necessary changes to access or movement around the site will be communicated quickly.

“Demolition means an increase in heavy vehicles, altered traffic movements, and temporary restrictions,” he said. “These disruptions are unavoidable due to the scale of the works, and we’re asking everyone to take extra care. Motorists should slow down, obey traffic control and signage, and allow additional travel time. Pedestrians are urged to stay alert, use designated pathways, and avoid construction zones at all times.”

“This is the final step in transforming Cowra’s health precinct,” Mayor Smith said. “Your patience and vigilance during this unavoidable phase will help keep our community safe as we complete this important renewal for Cowra.”
