Kenya to Take Centre Stage at Cowra’s 2027 Festival of International Understanding

Kenya has officially accepted an invitation to be the Guest Nation for the 2027 Festival of International Understanding, to be held in Cowra across the weekend of 19 March 2027.

Following the success of this year's Festival, which celebrated the United Kingdom and brought a vibrant program of cultural experiences, performances and community events to Cowra, representatives from Kenya expressed strong interest in becoming involved in the 2027 festival.

Cowra Shire Council Mayor Paul Smith welcomed the announcement, noting the Festival's growing international reputation and its role in fostering cultural understanding and global connections. "The enthusiasm shown by Kenyan representatives following this year's Festival has been incredibly encouraging. Their involvement in 2027 will bring new cultural experiences and further strengthen the global connections that make this event so special," Mayor Paul Smith said.

The Festival of International Understanding is one of Cowra's signature events and has been a cornerstone of the town's commitment to international friendship and cultural exchange for more than five decades. Each Festival celebrates a different nation through a program of performances, exhibitions, educational activities, food experiences and community events.

The selection of Kenya as the 2027 Guest Nation will provide an opportunity to showcase the country's rich cultural heritage, diverse traditions, music, dance, art, cuisine and contemporary achievements. It is also expected to create opportunities for collaboration between local community groups, schools, businesses and Kenyan representatives in the lead-up to the Festival.

Mayor Smith said the Festival continues to strengthen Cowra's reputation as a welcoming and globally connected regional community. "The Festival is about bringing people together, building understanding and celebrating the diversity that enriches our communities. We look forward to working with Kenyan representatives to create a memorable Festival experience for residents and visitors" he said.
