Parking Update – Supporting a Safer, More Accessible Cowra

For the first time in several years, Council will be reintroducing active parking enforcement in Cowra. This change is about improving access, safety and fairness across the town centre for residents, visitors, school students and local businesses.

Timed parking plays an important role in creating regular turnover, helping customers find convenient short-stay parking and keeping key areas moving smoothly. From the 1st of February, Council Rangers will be patrolling priority locations, with warnings focused on timed parking, loading zones, school zones and disabled parking.

To help everyone adjust, Council will apply a one-month education and grace period for timed parking only. During this time, Rangers will issue warnings instead of fines, giving drivers the opportunity to become familiar with parking signs and time limits.

Please note, this grace period does not apply to disabled parking, loading zones or school zones, where enforcement will commence immediately due to critical safety and accessibility requirements.

Council encourages drivers planning longer visits to take advantage of Cowra’s long-stay, unrestricted parking options, including the car park behind the Lachlan Hotel and the Aquatic Centre Car Park. For shorter visits in the main streets, motorists are reminded to check signage carefully, as time limits vary by location.

A message from the Mayor:

“Our goal is not to catch people out, but to make parking fairer and more accessible for everyone. By reintroducing parking enforcement gradually and starting with education, we’re supporting local businesses, improving safety particularly around schools, and making it easier for people to access the town centre.”

Parking infringements will continue to be issued as physical tickets, with all fine processing and notifications managed through Revenue NSW. Council will provide a direct link to Revenue NSW information on its website for easy reference.

Ends.
