$11 Million Cowra Aquatic Centre Upgrade, A Generational Investment in Our Community

Cowra Shire Council is excited to announce an $11 million upgrade to the Cowra Aquatic Centre a once-in-a-generation investment that will deliver modern, accessible, and family-friendly facilities for our community. The tender has been awarded to Endeavour Pools and Spas, who will carry out the works.

The major redevelopment will include a new main pool, a new toddler pool, an interactive splash pad, and two state-of-the-art filtration systems. These upgrades will provide Cowra residents and visitors with a safer, more enjoyable, and more sustainable swimming experience for many years to come.

More than half of the total project cost is funded through State and Federal Government grants, reflecting strong confidence in Cowra’s future and the importance of investing in regional communities.

In addition to the exciting new facilities, this upgrade will also address long-standing structural issues at the Aquatic Centre. The project will rectify problems such as water leakage, and other aging infrastructure concerns that have been challenging to maintain over the years. By tackling these issues now, Council is ensuring the precinct is safe, efficient, and future-proofed for generations of swimmers.

Mayor Paul Smith said:

“This upgrade is an incredible opportunity for our community. While it means the Aquatic Centre will close for one season, it also allows us to invest wisely in the future.”

With more than half the funding coming from State and Federal grants, this project demonstrates the strong confidence our government partners have in Cowra’s growth and potential.

And importantly, this redevelopment isn’t just about adding new features it’s about solving the structural problems that have been a drain on the facility’s operations. By addressing these underlying issues now, we’re investing in a safer, more reliable aquatic centre that will serve our community for decades to come.”

To allow for the 68-week construction period, the Cowra Aquatic Centre will be closed for the 2026–27 swimming season, with work commencing immediately following the conclusion of the current season. Council acknowledges that this temporary closure may cause some disruption; however, it represents an important step towards creating a facility that will benefit the community for generations.

Cowra Shire Council has been working closely with key stakeholders, including the Cowra Swimming Club, Cowra Community Health’s Mobility Improvement Program Squad (MIPS), and other affected user groups, to ensure they have been consulted with and are informed throughout the process. All have expressed understanding and support for what this project will deliver.

This project demonstrates Council’s commitment to investing in essential community infrastructure that supports healthy, active lifestyles and enhances local recreation opportunities.
